Chief Warrant Officer Three Andrew G. Cully was born on 12 May 1990 in Springfield, Missouri. He was a devoted husband and father who always prioritized his family. He was a natural leader and an esteemed pilot, exemplifying the professionalism, dedication, and excellence expected of a Special Operations Aviator.
CW3 Cully was a Basic Mission Qualified MH-60M Black Hawk Pilot assigned to Charlie Company, 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. CW3 Cully died when his MH-60M Black Hawk helicopter, tail #269, crashed during a training mission in Washington.
CW3 Cully commissioned as a 2LT Aviation Officer from Missouri State University in May 2013. After completing Flight School at Fort Rucker, Alabama, he was assigned as a Platoon Leader to 3rd Battalion, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade in Hawaii from 2015 to 2018. He then reappointed as an Aviation Warrant Officer and served as a UH-60M Black Hawk Helicopter Pilot-in-Command for 3rd Battalion, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Riley, Kansas. He supported two operational deployments to the EUCOM theater in support of Operations ATLANTIC RESOLVE and SWIFT RESPONSE. CW3 Cully completed the UH-60M Instructor Pilot Course at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in 2022 and was then assigned to 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He then assessed favorably for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) and after completing Green Platoon, he was assigned to Charlie Company, 4th Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, in May 2024. While assigned to Charlie Company, he supported multiple CONUS and OCONUS training missions and deployed to the INDOPACOM theater in 2025.
CW3 Cully's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (w/3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Basic Army Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and was inducted into the Honorable Order of Saint Michael for significant contributions to the Army Aviation community.
CW3 Cully is survived by his wife, Layne; his sons, Lennox and Abbott; his parents, Blake and Kimberly; and his sister, Mackenzie. He is laid to rest in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
