Specialist Brandon D. Gordon died 18 February 2007 in southeastern Afghanistan when his MH-47E, #472, Chinook Helicopter crashed while conducting operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
SPC Gordon was born on 2 February 1986 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in October 2003 as a Chinook Helicopter Repairer. After completing Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, SPC Gordon was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, Camp Humphreys, Korea. He arrived at the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) in May 2005 and completed the Enlisted Green Platoon course. He was then assigned to the 2nd Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he served as an MH-47E Maintenance Team Member and MH-47 Crewmember in Bravo Company.
SPC Gordon was a graduate of the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Course and the Chinook Helicopter Repairer Course.
SPC Gordon's awards and decorations include the Air Medal (w/"V" Device), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and Aircraft Crew Member Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medal.
He is survived by his parents, Gene and Terri, and brother, Bradley. He is laid to rest in Naples, Florida at Naples Memorial Gardens. The 160th SOAR(Abn) single Soldier barracks complex at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, is dedicated in his honor as the Gordon Barracks.
