Chief Warrant Officer Three Corey J. Goodnature died on 28 June 2005 in eastern Afghanistan when his MH-47D Chinook helicopter was shot down by an enemy rocket propelled grenade while flying in to rescue the members of a SEAL team during Operation RED WINGS.

CW3 Goodnature was born on 13 February 1970 in Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with an associate degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1991 and volunteered for service in the Army in October of 1991. He served as a Parachute Rigger at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon graduation from flight school in 1995, his first assignment was flying UH-1 helicopters in Korea. In 1996, he was assigned to Camp Wheeler, Hawaii. CW3 Goodnature assessed for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) in 1998 and was assigned to 3rd Battalion 160th SOAR(Abn) at Hunter Army Air Field, Georgia, as an MH-47D Chinook Pilot.

CW3 Goodnature's was a graduate of the U.S. Army Parachute Rigger Course, Basic Airborne Course, Electronic Warfare Officer Course, CH-47D Aircraft Qualification Course, Air Assault Course, Special Operations Training Course, the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Course, CH-47D Instructor Pilot Course, and the Aviation Warrant Officer Course.

CW3 Goodnature's awards and decorations include the Air Medal (w/"V" Device), Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (w/1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (w/1 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (w/1 Bronze Service Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (w/Numeral 2), Parachutist Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Ivory Coast Paratrooper Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (w/"V" Device), and the Combat Action Badge.

CW3 Goodnature is survived by his wife, Lori; his sons, Shea and Brennan; his parents, Don and Deb; and his sister, Amy. He is laid to rest in Albert Lee, Minnesota, at Graceland Cemetery. Hangar #7902 at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, is dedicated in honor of the crew of Aircraft Tail #146 as Turbine 33 Hangar. A scholarship (The Corey Goodnature Memorial Scholarship Fund) was established by the Goodnature family and friends.
