Staff Sergeant Edwidge Pierre was born on 11 December 1961 in Port au Prince, Haiti, and he was raised in Brooklyn, New York. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army on 6 July 1978 and attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
SSG Pierre's assignments included Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic at Fort Hood, Texas and Vilseck, Germany, and as a Squad Leader and Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic at 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. While assigned to 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, he served as the Motor Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Shop Foreman, Senior Mechanic, and Headquarters Company Reenlistment NCO.
SSG Pierre's awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal (w/3 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (4th award), National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (w/Numeral 3), Drivers Wheel Badge, Mechanics Badge, and Expert Weapons Badge.
SSG Pierre died on 7 March 1995 when his 5-ton truck, #M925A2, rolled over after hydroplaning while in convoy on the way from Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia to Camp Stanley, Mississippi for unit training.
SSG Pierre is survived by his wife, Andrea; sons, Sebastian and Benjamin; daughters, Christine and Devin, parents, Arnold and Yvette, brothers, Pascal and Anthony, and sister, Dominique. The 160th SOAR(Abn) motor pool and vehicle maintenance complex, building #7224, on GEN Brown Compound at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, is dedicated in his honor as Pierre Maintenance Complex.
