Staff Sergeant Gregory M. Frampton was born on 20 August 1965 in Fresno, California. He was one of four crewmembers who died on 30 January 2003 when their MH-60L Black Hawk helicopter, #185, crashed near Bagram, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

SSG Frampton earned a bachelor degree from San Jose State University and then volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in May 1993. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and attended Advanced Individual Training as a Tactical Transport Helicopter Mechanic (MOS 67T) at Fort Eustis, Virginia.

In November 1993, SSG Frampton assessed and was selected for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In December 1993, he was assigned to Foxtrot Company, 1st Battalion. On 1 April 1994, he was assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion where he served as an MH-60L Black Hawk DAP and Assault Fully Mission Qualified Crew Chief. In April 1999, he was assigned to the USASOC Flight Detachment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he held the positions of UH-60L Black Hawk Flight Instructor, Technical Inspector and Production Control NCO. In October 2002, he was again assigned to Delta Company, 1st Battalion. SSG Frampton quickly progressed again to Fully Mission Qualified status and deployed on numerous training exercises and in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. SSG Frampton logged over 1,330 total flight hours supporting special operations.

SSG Frampton is a graduate of Airborne School, and the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Course.

SSG Frampton's awards and decorations include the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (w/3 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w/Numeral 2), National Defense Service Medal (w/1 Bronze Service Star), Air Crewman Badge, and Parachutist Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and Air Medal.

SSG Frampton is survived by his wife, Julia; mother, Judith; brothers, Eric and Peter; and sisters, Loretta, Chamaine, and Mary. He is laid to rest in Fresno, California, at Fresno Catholic Cemetery. The Special Operations Aviation Green Platoon Training Area is dedicated in honor of the fallen crewmembers of Aircraft Tail #185.
