Chief Warrant Officer Three Jacob M. Sims was born on 13 August 1981 in Oklahoma. CW3 Sims volunteered for service in the U. S. Army on 12 August 1999. After completing Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, he was assigned as a Combat Engineer to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After successful selection and completion of Warrant Officer Flight Training, CW3 Sims was assigned as a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot to Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

CW3 Sims volunteered to serve in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) and graduated Officer Green Platoon in April 2014. He was assigned to Alpha Company, 4th Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. CW3 Sims served as a Fully Mission Qualified MH-47G Pilot-in- Command and Company Aviation Safety Officer. CW3 Sims is a veteran of Operation JOINT GUARDIAN in Kosovo; numerous tours in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in Iraq; and Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, and RESOLUTE SUPPORT in Afghanistan.

CW3 Sims was a graduate of Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School, Basic Leader Course, Air Assault School, Jumpmaster School, Advanced Leader Course, Warrant Officer Flight Training, UH-60 Qualification Course, the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) High Risk (Level C) Course, CH-47D Qualification Course, Officer Green Platoon, Combatives Level 1, MH-47G Qualification Course, Aviation Safety Officer Course, and Aviation Warrant Officer Advanced Course.

CW3 Sims’ awards and decorations include the Air Medal (w/“C” device), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (w/3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (w/5 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (w/2 OLC), Army Meritorious Unit Commendation (w/2 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (w/1 Bronze Service Star), Iraq Campaign Medal (w/2 Bronze Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w/Numeral 2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal (w/2 Bronze Service Stars), Combat Action Badge, Army Aviator Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Sapper Tab. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.

CW3 Sims is survived by his wife, Alicia; their five children, Marrissa, Cheyenne, Gavin, Grayson, and Harper; parents, John and Linda; mother, Teresa; brother, Joshua and two sisters, Sally and Becky.
