Staff Sergeant Kerry W. Frith was born on 27 September 1967 and is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada. He died on 22 February 2002 in an overwater helicopter crash while on a training mission in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
SSG Frith volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in 1987. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where he was trained as a Medium Helicopter Repairmen (67U). SSG Frith’s assignments included a tour in Hawaii and a deployment to Saudi Arabia. In 1991, SSG Frith was assigned to the Special Operations Aviation Training Company (SOATC), 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Upon completion of the Basic Mission Qualification Course (Green Platoon) he was assigned as a Flight Engineer for Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion at Fort Campbell.
SSG Frith had numerous deployments with the 160th SOAR(Abn) to include Operations DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM and Operation GOTHIC SERPENT in Somalia. He was assigned to Echo Company, 160th SOAR(Abn) in Taegu, Republic of Korea in October 2001. SSG Frith deployed with his unit to multiple locations across the Pacific Command in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
SSG Frith was a graduate of the 160th SOAR(Abn) Enlisted Green Platoon Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, and Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course.
SSG Frith's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (w/2 OLC), Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (w/3 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (w/1 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Master Aircraft Crew Member Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Air Medal.
SSG Frith is survived by his wife, Carolyn; their children, Jacob and Ciara; and his brother Anthony. The hangar classroom in Fox Hangar on GEN Brown Compound is dedicated in his honor as Frith Classroom.
