Sergeant Michael D. Hall died on 1 June 2006, when the MH-47 Chinook helicopter he was flying in crashed near Doerun, Georgia, during a training flight from his unit's home station at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, to Fort Rucker, Alabama.

SGT Hall was born on 14 December 1975 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army on 3 March 2000. After completing Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Eustis, Virginia, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, Hanau, Germany. In November 2002, SGT Hall was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, where he served as an Aircraft Structural Repairman.

A six-time veteran of the Global War on Terrorism, SGT Hall deployed four times in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

SGT Hall was a graduate of the Aircraft Structural Repairer Course, Air Force Advanced Composite Repair Course, Special Operations Aviation Enlisted Qualification Course, and Warrior Leadership Course.

SGT Hall's awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Aviation Badge. He was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.

His father, Gary G. Hall, who was a decorated U.S. Marine, precedes Michael in death. SGT Hall is survived by his mother, Lynda; two older brothers, Richard and Robert; and an older sister, Deborah. He is laid to rest in Beebe, Arkansas, at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
