Specialist Robert D. Lund was born on 19 November 1979 in Centralia, Washington, and graduated from
W.F. West High School in Chehalis, Washington. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army in 1997 when he enlisted in the Army Reserve. He then entered Active Duty in 1998.
SPC Lund completed Advanced Individual Training (AIT) as an Armament and Electrical Systems Repairer (68J) at Fort Eustis, Virginia, on 4 December 1998. Upon completing AIT, SPC Lund was assigned to Delta Company, Aviation Maintenance Company, 82nd Aviation Brigade at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While assigned to Fort Bragg, he served a tour in Bosnia from 13 March 2001 through 1 October 2001.
In June 2003, SPC Lund was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He completed the Special Operations Aviation Training Company Enlisted Green Platoon training in August 2003. SPC Lund was then assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, "Six Guns," at Fort Campbell, where he served as a member of the “Armament Dawgs." While assigned to Bravo Company, SPC Lund deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from 4 December 2003 through 12 March 2004.
SPC Lund was a graduate of Airborne School, the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Level C Course, and the Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS) Course.
SPC Lund's awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.
SPC Lund is survived by his father, David; mother, Catherine; and sister, Karen. He is laid to rest in Kent, Washington, at Tahoma National Cemetery, Section 9, Site 247.
