Chief Warrant Officer Three Steven B. Redd died 8 August 2011 when his AH-6M Little Bird helicopter crashed during a training mission at a live-fire range at Fort Benning, Georgia.

CW3 Redd, a native of Lancaster, California, volunteered for Army service in June 1992. After serving nine years as a Forward Observer in 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, CW3 Redd was accepted into the Army Warrant Officer Program at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in 2001. Upon graduation from the AH-64 Aircraft Qualification Course in 2002, CW3 Redd was assigned as an Attack Helicopter Pilot and Instructor Pilot with Alpha Company, 6-6 Cavalry Squadron in Illesheim, Germany. After a successful assessment in 2007, he was assigned as an AH-6M Instructor Pilot, Aircraft Survivability Equipment-Electronic Warfare Officer, and Aircraft Armament Officer with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

CW3 Redd is a combat veteran with 12 deployments, 10 in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and two in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

CW3 Redd was a graduate of the Warrant Officer Candidate School, Aviation Warrant Officer Basic Course, Aviation Warrant Officer Advanced Course, the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Course, AH-64 Aircraft Qualification Course, Pathfinder Course, U.S. Army Airborne School, U.S. Army Jumpmaster Course, Joint Firepower Controller Course, and U.S. Army Ranger School.

CW3 Redd’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (w/Numeral 3), Army Commendation Medal (w/3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (w/1 Silver OLC and 2 Bronze OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal (w/2 Bronze Service Stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (w/2 Bronze Service Stars), Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (w/Numeral 2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (w/Numeral 3), NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Jumpmaster Badge, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Meritorious Service Medal.

CW3 Redd is survived by his wife, Adalia; children, Jazlyn, Tristyn, and Dezaray; step-children, Paige, Eden, and Ledger; parents, Louis and Dorothy; sisters, Cindy, Susan, Deborah, Amy, Kathryn, and Sharon; and brothers, Michael, John, and James. He is laid to rest in Bountiful, Utah, at Lakeview Memorial Park.
